Freefly MoVI Pro Velocity Kit
The Velocity Kit was developed to help you aerodynamically balance your MoVI Pro, for increased performance in high-speed applications.
If you are operating the MoVI Pro mounted to a vehicle, or are otherwise exposing the MoVI to side drag (shooting perpendicular to direction of travel), the side profile of the MoVI Pro needs to be aerodynamically balanced such that the surface area in front of and behind the pan motor are equal.
Once you determine which end of the MoVI has more surface area, install the Velocity kit on the opposite side and tune the kit to achieve a low pan motor current at high speed. The adjustable fins allow you to tune how much additional drag you add to the system. A balanced MoVI is a happy MoVI!

The Velocity Kit was developed to help you with aerodynamic balance on your MoVI Pro, for increased performance in high-speed applications.
Determine your specific use case.
Determine which side of the gimbal has the most wind resistance. This will be the side that blows back at high speeds while the gimbal is pointed perpendicular to the direction of travel.
With heavier/lens packages, there will likely be more wind resistance on the rear side of the gimbal. In this case, install the Velocity Kit on the front of the gimbal.
With smaller camera packages or larger lenses, there will likely be more wind resistance on the front side of the gimbal. In this case, install the Velocity Kit on the rear side of the gimbal.
Install the Velocity Kit.
Required tools:
2.5mm Hex Driver
2.0mm Hex Driver
To install the Velocity Kit on the front side of the gimbal with landing gear, assemble the hardware in the following configuration.:
To install the Velocity Kit on the front side of the gimbal without landing gear, assemble the hardware in the following configuration. Use 2X M3x10mm screws to attach the “T” shaped carbon bracket to the front of the gimbal.
To install the Velocity Kit on the backside of the gimbal, assemble the hardware in the following configuration.:
Tune the Velocity Kit to aerodynamically balance the gimbal.
Open or close the petals to increase or decrease surface area and achieve an equal amount of wind resistance on both sides of the gimbal. Poor aerodynamic balance causes the pan motor current draw to increase.
Motor current can be monitored in the MoVI app.
Mount MoVI to a vehicle.
Have an assistant drive up to speed, ~10 mph slower than the speed at which the pan motor would typically lose hold.
Point MoVI sideways/perpendicular to the direction of travel.
Monitor the pan motor current consumption.
Adjust the Velocity Kit petal spread to increase or decrease surface area.
Repeat until pan motor current draw is not significantly higher than the other motors.
If the Velocity Kit is installed properly, the gimbal’s pan motor should not lose hold at high speeds.
